The two Texas-born artists performed a pair of well-known songs from George Strait’s catalog.
Miranda Lambert shared a memorable moment over the weekend when she appeared on stage with George Strait during his back-to-back shows at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, Texas.
After serving as the opening act, Lambert later surprised the audience by returning during Strait’s set for a collaborative performance. Before they began, she revealed that Strait had invited her to choose any songs from his catalog for their duet.
She said the opportunity followed a recent exchange between them after she performed at the Kennedy Center Honors, where she honored Strait with a rendition of “Run.” According to Lambert, after the event and some celebration together, Strait told her she could pick any songs she wanted to sing with him.
After taking time to decide, she selected two of his classics: “I Wanna Dance With You” (1998) and “She’ll Leave You With a Smile” (2002). She described the choice as meaningful, saying she felt honored to share the stage with “King George.”
George Strait praised her selections during the performance, and the two artists delivered the songs together with live harmonies as the audience joined in.
The moment also carried personal significance for Lambert, who first toured as an opening act for Strait early in her career. Years later, the performance marked a full-circle reunion between the two Texas artists at very different stages of their careers.
