Lainey Wilson is opening up about the “pressure” that comes with fame and the significance of being a role model for her young fans.
In an interview with PEOPLE about her recent collaboration with Yellow Rose by Kendra Scott, the 32-year-old country singer-songwriter acknowledged feeling a strong sense of pressure to meet certain expectations. She stated, “That pressure is going to hold me accountable.”
Wilson explained, “I feel like I can handle that pressure. At the end of the day, I still fear Mama, Daddy, and the Lord, and I strive to avoid actions that would disappoint them.” She also admitted, “The truth is, I’m human, so I’m going to disappoint people.”
Wilson continues, “I know I have a lot of little people watching me, observing what I wear and what I say. It’s crucial for me to be able to lay my head down at night and feel proud of my actions and words.”
In the same conversation, Wilson expressed her enthusiasm for her fifth studio album, Whirlwind, which was released on August 23. She described it as a “badass record” and mentioned that it reveals a new side of her. “I think this record is going to be something I talk about 50 years from now,” she adds.
Released on Friday, Whirlwind includes previously released singles like “Country’s Cool Again” and “4x4xU,” as well as a feature from Miranda Lambert on “Good Horses.” The album comprises 14 tracks and marks a significant moment for Wilson, who described it as “a long time coming.”
Wilson shared, “This new chapter of music is the most cathartic and personal piece of art I’ve ever made. I hope this record brings some peace to your whirlwind and wraps its arms around you like it did for me.” She also recently won entertainer of the year at the ACM Awards.
