Kelsea Ballerini has entered a phase in life where she’s more certain than ever about what she wants — and what she doesn’t.

The 31-year-old Grammy-nominated artist tells PEOPLE that turning 30 has inspired a more holistic outlook, one she describes as striving to be “360 healthy.”

“I want to take care of my mental, physical, and emotional health,” she says. “I also want to be able to keep up with the lifestyle and career I’ve worked so hard to build.”

Ballerini elaborates on what that balance looks like for her: “Now the challenge is, can I have the stamina to perform for 90 minutes on stage? Can I get up early, walk both of my dogs, keep up with Dibs’ vet visits, hop on Zoom calls, and still be fully present? I want to show up for my friends, my family, my team — even when everything feels like chaos.”

That level of energy, she admits, isn’t easy to maintain. But by staying active, eating well, and relying on a bit of help from Celsius — her go-to energy drink — Ballerini finds her groove. “I drink Celsius all the time,” she says. “Days can be so full, and I want to be energized and engaged for every part of it — from press and meet-and-greets to the actual show. Sometimes I need that little boost.”

Her devotion to the drink has even earned her the nickname “Kelsius,” and she recently became an official brand ambassador.

As for how she stays active, Ballerini keeps it simple: “I love walking. It gets you moving, gives you some sunshine, and clears your head. It’s great for mental health.”

She’s also consistent with Pilates, which she’s been doing for five years. “It’s my go-to workout because I don’t dread it,” she explains. “I want exercise to feel good — not like a punishment.”

When it comes to food, Ballerini follows an 80/20 rule: eating healthfully most of the time, while giving herself permission to indulge occasionally. “So, 80% of the time I’m eating clean, and 20% of the time? You’ll catch me at McDonald’s,” she says with a laugh.

She enjoys cooking at home, too, especially now that she’s focused on increasing her protein intake. “My favorite dish to make is chimichurri steak — it’s my specialty. I’ve got some ready in the fridge right now,” she shares.

And while her nutrition goals keep her on track most of the time, she still honors her childhood favorites. “As a kid, I was the pickiest eater. My parents love to remind me I basically survived on waffles and chicken nuggets — so I guess my inner child still wants them every now and then.”
