The country singer also made a heartfelt mention of the couple’s daughters, Sunday, 16, and Faith, 14, while receiving the esteemed award.
Big congratulations to Keith Urban!
On Thursday, March 8, the 57-year-old country artist was honored with the prestigious Triple Crown Award at the 60th Academy of Country Music Awards, held at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas. The celebration began with a special tribute featuring some of the biggest stars of the evening.
Megan Moroney kicked off the tribute with a shortened version of “Stupid Boy,” and Chris Stapleton followed with a heartfelt cover of “Blue Ain’t Your Color,” ending with the touching message, “We love you, Keith.”
As Moroney, 27, and Stapleton, 47, performed, a joyful Urban sang along to his songs and shared a dance with his wife, Nicole Kidman, in the audience. During Stapleton’s performance, Kidman, 57, was seen wrapping her arms around Urban as the two swayed together.
The tribute to Urban concluded with Brothers Osborne performing “Where the Blacktop Ends” from 1999, after which Urban grabbed a guitar and joined the duo on stage. Following his performance, he took the microphone to accept the Triple Crown Award.
Urban began his speech by expressing his gratitude to the performers, the band for the “incredible” tribute, the Academy for the honor, and, of course, to Kidman, with a possible reference to her recent role in Babygirl.
“My wife, Nicole Mary, is here tonight. I love you, babygirl. And our daughters, Sunday and Faith, who are watching from home, I love you both as well,” Urban shared, giving a heartfelt shout-out to his 16- and 14-year-old daughters.
He went on, “I have an incredible team, and while I can’t possibly thank everyone by name, I want to acknowledge how hard they work behind the scenes because no one makes it on their own. I also want to thank my road band and my entire road family. A huge thanks as well to all the fans who come out to support us—I truly appreciate it.”
Urban continued his gratitude by thanking country radio, his record label, Capitol Records, and “the most amazing promo team out there.”
He closed his speech by mentioning his upcoming tour with Blake Shelton, which is set to begin later this month. “Thank you so much,” he said. “We’ll see you soon.”
