Jelly Roll achieved another “childhood dream,” this time with a bit of wrestling action.
On August 3, 2024, the country superstar, age 39, took to the ring at WWE SummerSlam. He quickly won over the Cleveland Browns Stadium crowd by joining forces with wrestlers Miz and R-Truth to battle Austin Theory and Grayson Waller.
During the event, the “Lonely Road” singer was initially seated in the audience, dressed in black alongside his friend Machine Gun Kelly. When Theory and Waller began taunting him from the ring, Jelly Roll didn’t hold back. He soon appeared behind the pair with a black folding chair and delivered a memorable smack to Waller’s back.
For the grand finale, Jelly Roll took it up a notch by grabbing Austin Theory by the neck and executing an impressive chokeslam. He, along with his wrestling partners, also treated Theory to the five-knuckle shuffle, a signature move popularized by John Cena.
Jelly Roll later shared his excitement on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Crazy — I lived a childhood dream tonight in the craziest way I’ve ever lived it. Wow. Man thank you @WWE for everything. What a night.”
During SummerSlam, Jelly Roll also performed his new track “Liar,” introduced by Triple H. The country star mingled with WWE icons like Triple H and The Undertaker, with WWE sharing some behind-the-scenes moments from their weekend interactions.
Triple H praised Jelly Roll, saying, “When you see somebody succeed at the level that they have, he has, and is yet a massive fan of what we do, that’s the best for us. When we can all get together, we love our music and he loves our product, we share that passion together, man.”
John Cena also gave Jelly Roll a shoutout on X (formerly Twitter), noting his use of Cena’s signature move and extending an informal invite for future collaborations. Cena wrote, “Have listened to his music, had the privilege of spending some time with him, and now know I have a GREAT option for a tag team partner anytime @WWE comes to Nashville. @JellyRoll615’s Time is Now!!!! #SummerSlam”
In 2024, Jelly Roll has been making notable strides beyond his WWE appearances. In June, he ventured into international territory with his first-ever shows outside the U.S., performing two concerts in Canada.
As he gears up for his Beautifully Broken arena tour, covering 37 U.S. cities, Jelly Roll also released a new track with MGK titled “Lonely Road.” This song, featuring a fresh take on John Denver’s classic “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” was accompanied by a music video showcasing appearances from Megan Fox and Bunnie Xo.
On Instagram, Jelly Roll shared his thoughts about the collaboration, saying, “What makes this collab so beautiful is its two guys that came from the exact same kind of place with less than zero percent of making it out. We’ve known each other for at least 15 years now. In true young dumb fashion, it was a tumultuous beginning, and it’s partly because I was one of the many people who judged him before giving him a chance. But over time, I’ve had the honor of watching him become one of the biggest artists on earth and, more importantly, one of the best fathers and humans on earth.”
He added, “To my brother, I want you to know the positive energy radiating off of you. I can’t shower you with enough praise for how incredible it has been to watch you become one of the greatest, most multifaceted songwriters and musicians in the game.”
