‘Christmas at the Opry’ Made Its Premiere on NBC Thursday Night

Kelly Clarkson and Wynonna Judd Unite for a Festive Duet on NBC’s ‘Christmas at the Opry’

In a segment from NBC’s ‘Christmas at the Opry,’ the talk show host and country singer teamed up to deliver an energetic performance of “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town.”

Accompanied by a full band, the duo alternated singing the verses before harmonizing for the chorus. Clarkson, 41, dazzled in a sparkling green dress, while Judd, 59, sported a black suit with golden lapels.

Hosted by Judd, the two-hour holiday special premiered on Thursday night on NBC and is currently available for streaming on Peacock. An encore presentation is scheduled for Dec. 20 on NBC.

The holiday special is set to feature performances by an array of artists, including Adam Doleac, BRELAND, Brenda Lee, Chris Janson, Chrissy Metz, Meghan Patrick, Mitchell Tenpenny, Trace Adkins, Lauren Alaina, and Mickey Guyton.

For Judd, Christmas holds a significant place both in her musical career and in her heart. The accomplished artist has recorded multiple Christmas albums, and on Southern Living’s “Biscuits & Jam” podcast, she fondly reminisced about holiday memories from her upbringing in Appalachia.

“I remember it was a big deal because we always chopped down our own tree… We would literally march out and pick one and cut it down. We had time, and that was such a gift. I didn’t know it at the time,” recalled the multiple Grammy-award-winning singer.

“We had no TV, no telephone. And we made things. It was a way of life for us. We sang, and of course, we prayed,” she reflected.

In a 2014 interview with Billboard, the singer-songwriter delved further into her connection with Christmas, revealing that her top five favorite Christmas songs are “Ave Maria,” “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem,” “O Holy Night,” “Silent Night,” and “Mary Did You Know?”

Clarkson, known for hosting and performing at this year’s Christmas in Rockefeller Center holiday special and tree lighting ceremony, is no stranger to festive celebrations. The “Stronger” musician has treated fans to two holiday albums: 2021’s “When Christmas Comes Around…” and 2013’s “Wrapped in Red.”
