The Grammy-winning country legend invited performers of all ages to audition for the opportunity to “capture the spirit” of her journey in Dolly: An Original Musical.
The search for Dolly has officially begun!
Dolly: An Original Musical launched a nationwide casting call, announced by Dolly Parton, her manager Danny Nozell, and ATG Productions on Thursday, Dec. 5. The Broadway show, originally titled Hello, I’m Dolly, will showcase key moments from the legendary singer’s life and career.
In a video shared on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, Parton unveiled the casting search and outlined the audition process, while clips from her illustrious career played in the background.
“I want to give you the chance to help me bring my story to Broadway — and maybe even play me!” Parton said, encouraging everyone to audition for the opportunity.
“This show is a celebration of my music, my life, and all the amazing people who’ve been with me along the way,” she continued. “We’re looking for talented performers who can capture the spirit of my journey, whether you’re an experienced theater professional or an undiscovered gem with that little special something.”
The musical is looking for “performers of all ages to portray Parton at different stages of her incredible life,” a press release from the show read.
To audition, applicants should record a one-minute video of themselves singing their favorite Parton song and post it to social media with the tag #SearchForDolly. Applicants should must also complete the application form on the musical’s site.
The application window will close on Jan. 12, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. ET, and the Dolly: An Original Musical casting team will review the submissions. The show will then invite any promising applicants to New York City for a formal audition process.
A Broadway production telling her life story has been a dream of Parton’s for years, as she shared with PEOPLE in January.
“Right now, I’m working on my life story as a musical, and so going on Broadway and opening my show on Broadway, that’s been a biggie [goal] in my mind for many, many years,” Parton told PEOPLE. “That’d be the one that I want to make certain I get done while I’m still kicking, while I’m around to stay involved in it.”
