Woody Harrelson knows how to snap a good photo, as Darius Rucker recently shared.
The “Wagon Wheel” singer, 58, posted screenshots from a fan’s TikTok on Instagram on Wednesday, Jan. 15, recounting a humorous moment during a night out with the True Detective actor. In the clip, Harrelson, 63, took a photo of Rucker and some fans — who didn’t recognize him.
“Storytime. One time my friend & I saw Darius Rucker at a bar and we asked his friend to take a photo of us,” the text on the social media post explained. “Darius was laughing and kept saying, ‘I’m gonna tell this story.'”
The fans eventually realized that the person taking the photo of Rucker and themselves was none other than three-time Academy Award-nominated actor Woody Harrelson.
“We asked Woody Harrelson to take a photo OF us,” the text added. “His friend.”
Fortunately, the White House Plumbers actor also left them a selfie on their phone. Rucker captioned the post with, “Still laughing 😂 @woodyharrelson.”
Country stars found the interaction hilarious. “I saw this on TikTok and cackled 😂,” singer Hannah Ellis commented. Brothers Osborne’s TJ and John called the story “incredible.”
Fans also shared their own amusing experiences. “One time my date at a Wizards game asked Stephen A. Smith to take our photo, and I think he almost spontaneously combusted,” one person recalled.
Another shared a story about unknowingly sharing an elevator ride with Larry David, laughing together before his comedy set.
Rucker and Harrelson’s friendship spans decades, with Rucker recalling a life-saving moment in his 2024 memoir Life’s Too Short. He described how Harrelson saved him from drowning in Hawaii during a tour break in the late 1990s after he got stuck in a powerful current.
“I felt as if some enormous giant squid had wrapped itself around my body, tightening its tentacles around my legs and pulling me under,” Rucker remembered.
“I gulped, gasped, and kept fighting. I struggled for what felt like ages — ten minutes, fifteen — and then I heard a voice. Woody.”
The two became trapped in the current, treading water for 30 minutes before their friend Kirk arrived. Together, Harrelson and Kirk managed to pull Rucker out of the current and back to the safety of the beach.
