Thomas Rhett Mourns the Passing of Kona, His Second Family Dog Lost in Six Weeks

Thomas Rhett and his family are facing another sorrowful loss. Just six weeks after losing their dog Cash, the country star revealed that their beloved Kona, a Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, has also passed away.
Rhett shared a heartfelt tribute to Kona on Instagram, writing, “It’s been a really tough month for our family. We lost our little Kona girl. I think after Cash passed, she just wanted to be with him. Losing a dog is strange because, whether you realize it or not, they’re always there—by your side, at the dinner table. They truly become part of your family.”
He added that listening to HARDY’s song “Dog Years” brought him to tears, noting that the song resonates deeply with anyone who has loved and lost a dog.
“Last night, I finally found the courage to listen to HARDY’s song ‘Dog Years,’ and I cried like a child. That song perfectly captures a dog’s life if they could speak. Kona and Cash, we’ll miss you so much. I know you two are having a blast together in heaven,” Thomas Rhett shared.
Rhett first introduced Kona to his fans in 2013 on YouTube and explained the inspiration behind her name.
“We went to Hawaii for our honeymoon and drank Kona coffee every day. Kona is also one of the Hawaiian islands, and when I was looking up Hawaiian dog names, Kona just felt right,” he said.
