Morgan Wallen Opts Out of Grammy Consideration for 2026
Morgan Wallen won’t be competing for Grammy gold in 2026 — and that decision is entirely his own.
According to HITS Daily Double on Aug. 19, the country singer has decided not to submit his 2025 album I’m the Problem for recognition at the upcoming Grammy Awards.
That choice also excludes him from individual performance categories, as noted by Billboard. None of the seven tracks Wallen co-wrote will be entered into the songwriting categories, either within country music or the general field. However, his collaborators are still free to submit their own work from the project if they choose.
Despite skipping the Grammys, the album has been a commercial success. It has already produced four No. 1 singles on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart and three chart-toppers on the Hot Country Songs list. His duet with Tate McRae, “What I Want,” even climbed to the top of the Billboard Hot 100.
Wallen’s move follows a tradition of artists distancing themselves from the Recording Academy. In 2016, Frank Ocean famously withheld his album Blonde, likening the decision to his own “Colin Kaepernick moment” in protest of what he saw as poor representation. Drake pulled his 2022 nominations after questioning the Grammys a year earlier. That same year, The Weeknd announced a boycott after After Hours and “Blinding Lights” were excluded from nominations, citing dissatisfaction with the Academy’s secret committees.
I’m the Problem, released in May 2025, features collaborations with Post Malone, Eric Church, ERNEST, HARDY, and Tate McRae — marking Wallen’s first recorded duet with a female artist.
In the album’s press release, Wallen explained the title’s personal meaning. “I know I’ve been a problem at times, and I don’t shy away from that,” he said. “But I’ve been reflecting on whether I want to keep being that person, or if it’s time to move past it.”
