Miranda Lambert Grieves Loss of 15-Year-Old Chihuahua Cher: ‘Dog Years Pass Too Quickly’

Miranda Lambert is mourning the loss of her cherished chihuahua, Cher, who had been by her side for 15 years.
On Sunday, Dec. 28, the 42-year-old country star shared a series of photos and videos on Instagram showing moments with Cher over the years, announcing that the dog had passed away the day before.
One snapshot captured Lambert holding Cher in the press room at the 2010 Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM), while another showed the pup enjoying a sunny day outdoors.
“Our sweet bear Cher crossed over the rainbow bridge yesterday,” Lambert wrote in her tribute. “Cher gave us 15 years of love, all the chihuahua attitude and energy she had to offer. And if you’ve ever had a chi chi, you know exactly what I mean.”
Lambert remembered first adopting Cher from a rescue shelter in 2010 when the pup was just 10 weeks old. She often carried Cher in her overall pockets and began bringing her to events right away, even coordinating her own outfit with Cher’s at the ACM Awards in Las Vegas that same year. From then on, the singer took Cher along on every tour.
“Thank you to her sweet soul for all the miles she traveled on the road,” Lambert added, noting that she had nine rescue dogs when she and husband Brendan McLoughlin met seven years ago. The couple, who married privately in January 2019, now have only one rescue dog remaining.
Lambert also shared a playful video of herself doing a pushup with Cher on her back, as well as clips of Cher interacting with other dogs.
“We sure are ready for a break from the heartbreak, y’all, but they are worth every tear we’ve shed,” the Grammy winner wrote. “Animals bring so much joy, but I sure wish dog years didn’t fly by so fast. Rescue’s forever ❤️.”
The post concluded with a photo of Cher alongside Lambert’s rescue retriever mix, Bellamy, whom she adopted in 2013.
Just last month, Lambert revealed that two of her miniature horses, Sugar Pie and Adrianna, had passed away on the same day. She shared multiple photos of herself with the horses, reflecting on the joy they had brought her over the past 18 years.
