Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd are preparing to release new music following their separation.
This week, both artists announced that they will debut new singles on Friday, October 25.
Morris, 34, revealed her song “People Still Show Up” on Instagram on Tuesday, October 22, sharing what looks like the cover art for the single.
The day before, Hurd, 37, shared a post featuring himself holding a cardboard sign that says “this party sucks,” followed by another slide that mentions, “out Friday.”
In a subsequent post, he noted that the music video for the song will also be released on the same day.
“AND THE NEWS KEEPS COMING: The video for ‘This Party Sucks’ drops on Friday. If you watch it all the way through, you’ll get three years of good luck, and I’ll buy you a beer the next time we cross paths. 🍻,” he captioned the post.
Hurd and Morris finalized their divorce in January, three months after Morris filed, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The couple was married for five years and has a four-year-old son, Hayes.
In an August interview with PEOPLE, Morris expressed that while she draws some inspiration from their divorce, her primary focus remains on their child.
“I never want to speak negatively or feel compelled to do so, because we both have a lot of love for each other and our son. Anything that comes out musically reflects our perspectives, and we each need to process things in our own ways,” she said. “This is my moment. I’m just moving forward in the ways that I know how.”
However, she acknowledged that even though she feels no regret, performing songs inspired by her ex can still be painful.
“There’s definitely a place for songs that you wrote about someone you loved deeply,” Morris explained. “In some ways, I don’t want to say I switch to autopilot while singing those songs to avoid the pain, but it’s just part of the experience. Those songs hold significance for me and resonate with others, so that’s truly a gift.”
In her EP Intermission, released on August 2, Morris delved into her experiences of navigating the divorce and moving forward.
“This feels like an incredible journey of self-discovery,” she told PEOPLE, adding, “along with the heartbreak of losing a relationship and the fun and joy that can emerge in the aftermath of such trauma or tragedy.”
