Luke Combs Marks His Return with New Single “Back in the Saddle”
Luke Combs has officially made his return with the release of his much-awaited new track, “Back in the Saddle.”
Now available, the song feels deeply personal, telling the story of a man ready for a powerful comeback after being away for a while.
“I’ve been waitin’ on a drummer to kick off a comeback song / I’ve been waitin’ in the wings like a dog on a chain,” Combs sings with grit, as the song builds in energy.
Written by the North Carolina native along with longtime collaborators Dan Isbell and Jonathan Singleton, the lyrics are rich with Western-inspired imagery, portraying someone who’s ready to take back control and reclaim his place.
In the chorus, Combs belts out:
“I’m back in the saddle like some old cowboy / Who dug his way out of his grave / Pulled up his boots, put his pistol on his hip / Climbed up and took hold of the reins / Don’t worry where I’ve been / I’m back in the saddle again.”
The anthemic track, perfect for country radio, reflects Combs’ own life, symbolizing a return to his roots and a renewed focus on what first fueled his love for music.
“It’s really about me going back to where it all began—hitting the road, working hard, and doing what I love,” Luke Combs said of his latest single. “Just getting back in the groove.”
The 11-time CMA Award winner launched “Back in the Saddle” with a high-energy music video featuring NASCAR icons Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Richard Petty.
Directed by Tyler Adams, the video shows Dale Jr. tearing up the track while Combs waves the starting flag. Later, Petty joins in and playfully tells Earnhardt Jr., “Let me show you how it’s done.”
“So much time and effort goes into these songs—from writing and recording to filming the videos,” Combs explained. “Getting to shoot this one with Dale Jr. and Richard Petty was surreal. My grandpa would be thrilled—he’d be overjoyed knowing I got to spend time with both of them.”
