Luke Bryan speaks out on the “misinformation” surrounding his late sister Kelly’s death, revealing that the tragedy has left his family with many “unanswered questions.”

Luke Bryan recently addressed the “misinformation” surrounding the sudden passing of his sister, Kelly.
Speaking on the Wednesday, Oct. 29 episode of CNN’s All There Is with Anderson Cooper podcast, the country star opened up about the “tragic” loss, recalling how his sister died unexpectedly in 2007 at the age of 39.
Now 49, Bryan told host Anderson Cooper that he has “never really explained” the details of what happened to his sister.
Luke Bryan opened up about the “misinformation” surrounding his sister Kelly’s sudden passing, hoping to clarify what really happened.
“There’s some misinformation out there on the internet, and I think some people kind of wonder what happened and think that we’ve tried to cover it up,” he began.
Bryan explained that his sister’s death was attributed to sudden death syndrome, noting that “a very, very small percentage of people die for no reason in the world.”
He recalled that Kelly had been doing laundry when it happened — “it was like somebody just turned the switch off on her,” he said. “It was just tragic beyond words.”
The suddenness of her death left Bryan and his family with many “unanswered questions.” They sought medical answers, wondering if there could be a hereditary factor that might affect Kelly’s children. “Your typical autopsy findings for someone 39 would be an aneurysm, an embolism, or a blood clot of some kind — but everything was inconclusive,” he shared.
Bryan also mentioned that Kelly had a “pretty severe” orbital bone injury at the time. “So whether she fainted or not… she may have hit the floor and knocked herself out,” he explained, adding, “I just think if someone could have been there, maybe her chances of surviving would have been a lot better.”
Describing his sister, Bryan said, “She was everything in our lives. She was the best mother you could ever dream of, and we all leaned on her for so many things. It’s hard to really wrap your brain around her being gone.”
He also recalled the last time he saw Kelly — during a trip to Nashville for his 2007 Grand Ole Opry debut. “She bought 120 tickets for family and friends on her personal credit card,” Bryan said. “I never could have imagined that our last photo would be taken in the lobby of the Grand Ole Opry, right after my first performance.”
Tragedy struck the family again in 2014 when Kelly’s husband, Ben Cheshire, died of a heart attack. Following his passing, Luke and his wife Caroline Bryan took in the couple’s three children — teenage son Til and adult daughters Jordan and Kris. The Bryans are also parents to two sons of their own: Thomas “Bo” Boyer, 17, and Tatum “Tate” Christopher, 15.
