Keith Urban revealed he had a unique family holiday tradition while growing up.

Keith Urban recently shared some of his favorite childhood holiday memories, highlighting a tradition that many Americans don’t experience: spending Christmas at the beach.

The Messed Up as Me singer reminisced, saying, “We had great Christmases growing up. I really, really enjoyed them. Mostly, we’d go to the beach because it’s summertime there. We’d load up the station wagon and head off to the beach.”

In the U.S., the idea of loading up the car and heading to the beach on Christmas Day might be one of the least likely answers on a Family Feud question about holiday traditions, with just one respondent offering it.

While many of us dream of a White Christmas filled with snow and hot chocolate, Keith Urban enjoyed a very different kind of white Christmas in Australia, surrounded by white sand and crystal-clear waters.

As for the rest of Christmas morning and the Urban family traditions, they were delightfully typical and festive.

Urban recalled, “I have great memories of getting up early, jumping on your parents’ bed to wake them up. Then, of course, you tear open the presents, and by eight in the morning, it’s all done. You’re left with the whole morning to wish you had more presents to open.”
