After shedding nearly 200 pounds, Jelly Roll — born Jason DeFord — might soon need a new stage name. The multi-genre artist recently joked that some fans have started calling him “Veggie Roll.”
In a TikTok clip, the “Need A Favor” hitmaker radiates confidence as he shows off his dance moves during a live performance. The video begins with the question, “Where’s Jelly?” before switching to shots of him dressed in all-black, wearing a glimmering chain and a Tennessee Titans cap. Moments later, the words “on the dance floor” appear as he breaks into an energetic routine to the delight of cheering fans.
The comments were filled with encouragement and admiration, with many applauding his dedication and transformation. “You can really see how happy you are doing the things you couldn’t before! I’m so proud of you, Jelly Roll,” one fan commented. Another wrote, “That smile says it all!”
Jelly Roll’s wellness journey began back in 2022, when he reportedly weighed around 550 pounds. Since then, he has dropped close to 200 pounds through major lifestyle changes. “Next year when y’all see me, you won’t recognize me,” he told fans last year — and he’s clearly made good on that promise.
Over the course of his transformation, the singer has hit several personal milestones, such as completing a 5K race, buying designer clothes, and even getting back on a scooter — something he hadn’t been able to do in years.
He’s also been open about his progress, telling his wife, Bunnie XO, on her Dumb Blonde podcast that he wanted to document his weight loss publicly. With a strict high-protein diet and consistent workouts, he’s been losing weight naturally — without turning to prescription medications.
That decision was intentional. “Every doctor I’ve talked to has supported it,” he explained in another podcast appearance. “They say it helps, but I was just scared of it. As a singer, nothing worries me more than acid reflux — it can destroy your vocal cords.”
A big part of Jelly Roll’s drive has been the desire to enjoy life experiences he once couldn’t because of his size.
“I’ve been overweight my whole life, and I’m miserable,” he admitted in a previous Instagram post. “I want to skydive, bungee jump, ride a bull, parasail, go on roller coasters — I want to do it all.”
