Carrie Underwood Opens Up About Motherhood During Appearance on The View
Carrie Underwood recently appeared on The View alongside fellow American Idol judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie to talk about the current season of the singing competition. During the conversation, Underwood shared insights into her life at home and how she keeps her two young sons grounded.
Guest host Abby Huntsman, a mother herself, asked Underwood about the rules she sets in her household and whether she would allow her 11- and 7-year-old boys to participate in a singing competition at their ages.
Underwood was clear: “Home is home.” She explained that she separates her work from her family life, switching from performer to mom as soon as she leaves the stage or set. “The person I am on stage and the person I am at home are almost completely different,” she said. “They’ll come to shows and see me perform, and I love that they’re proud. But then at home, I make dinner.”
She went on to describe her everyday life, noting that it’s often far from glamorous, as she spends time tending to farm animals on her property. For Underwood, prioritizing a semi-normal life for her children is essential. “I hope more than anything that’s what they remember about me. She was mom, and every once in a while she’d go on stage,” she added.
When asked if her sons share her passion for music, Underwood admitted that both can sing, with her eldest, Isaiah, particularly drawn to it. However, she is cautious about letting him pursue a career in music until he is older and more emotionally prepared. “He’s mini me in so many ways,” she said. “But he would need to be older and more established before I would give my blessing.”
Luke Bryan jokingly chimed in, calling her “the momager.”
Underwood also revealed that her protective instincts extend to young contestants on American Idol. “We’ve had kids as young as 14 audition, and I think, ‘You’re talented, but you’re not ready yet. In six years, you’ll be mature enough to handle it.’”
