At a Nashville preview event for the album on Tuesday, Pearce opened up about the story behind “He Don’t Like My Dogs.” Speaking to members of the music industry, media, friends, and family, she explained that the relationship ended after the person failed to treat her dog Johnny with kindness.
Pearce recalled the situation humorously, saying that once she and Johnny had discussed the matter, the decision was made to remove the man from their “family.” She also joked that the person who inspired the song will immediately recognize himself when he eventually hears it.
The GRAMMY-winning artist then added another playful remark, describing the song as a perfect example of her own personal sense of humor.
Listeners will have to wait until Aug. 28 for the official release, but an early preview suggests the track could become one of the album’s standout moments.
Pearce has also expressed strong confidence in Honest Woman, calling it her favorite collection of music she has created so far. The album represents an important new chapter for the Kentucky-born singer as she reflects on her experiences and continues to evolve creatively.
