Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus won the Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for their song “II MOST WANTED.”
Billy Ray Cyrus took to social media to congratulate both Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus for their Grammy victories.
On February 2, the Hannah Montana star expressed his pride for his daughter and Beyoncé, who won the Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for their collaboration on “II Most Wanted.”
“Big congrats to @mileycyrus and @beyonce on their much-deserved @recordingacademy Grammy wins!” Billy, 63, wrote on Instagram alongside a photo marking their achievement. “So proud!!!”
Miley, 32, who attended the ceremony with her boyfriend Maxx Morando and her mother Tish (Billy’s ex-wife), showed her support by liking the post. This Grammy win marked Miley’s first award in the country category, even surpassing her father’s iconic “Achy Breaky Heart.”
During the ceremony, Miley also celebrated her win when presenting the Grammy for Record of the Year, playfully acknowledging Beyoncé, 43, and joking that if she didn’t win, she’d declare herself the victor.
Miley’s response to her dad’s congratulations follows the backlash Billy received for his unusual performance at Donald Trump’s inauguration, where he gave odd renditions of “Old Town Road” and “Achy Breaky Heart.” Viewers online labeled it an “epic disaster,” “cringe-worthy,” and “genuinely concerning.”
Billy explained the performance by attributing it to technical difficulties. “I had a blast at the Liberty Ball last night, and over the years, I’ve learned that when the producer says ‘You’re on,’ you just go and entertain the crowd, even if the equipment fails. I was there for the people, and we had a great time. That’s rock n roll!” he shared with PEOPLE in an exclusive statement.
The following day, Billy reinforced his stance on Instagram, telling his followers, “I just don’t think you understand.”
Miley’s brother, Trace, wrote an emotional open letter to Billy on Instagram a few days afterward, commenting on his behavior. He expressed, “You’re not well, Dad, and it’s becoming more noticeable to everyone.”
With tears in his eyes, Trace added, “I hope you understand that this message is sent with love, but also from a place of fear—fear that we might lose you too soon.”
“I want to help you if you’re willing to accept it,” Trace, 35, continued. “You know how to contact me. Until then, I’ll keep you in my prayers.”
