“We’re thrilled about the opportunities this series has to offer.”

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani are teaming up once again, but this time it’s not for a duet or a TV competition. Instead, the couple is stepping into the role of producers for a new Prime Video series titled Dorothy.
According to Deadline, the show reimagines L. Frank Baum’s classic The Wizard of Oz through a fresh, modern YA perspective, blending music with a contemporary storyline.
The original 1939 tale follows Dorothy, a young girl carried away from her Kansas home by a tornado and transported to the fantastical land of Oz. In Munchkinland, she’s greeted by Glinda the Good Witch, who urges her to follow the yellow brick road to Emerald City. Along the way, Dorothy befriends the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion—each in search of something they lack—as they journey together in hopes of finding the Wizard and helping Dorothy return home.
While the story has been adapted countless times over the years, Prime Video’s new series promises to stand apart by placing the narrative in today’s world. As reported, the creative team will use the iconic Yellow Brick Road as a metaphor for the challenges and decisions that modern kids and teens face.
The project comes from creator Gina Matthews—best known for 13 Going on 30 and Isn’t It Romantic—under her Little Engine banner. Executive producers include Stefani, Shelton (via Lucky Horseshoe), Lee Metzger, Grant Scharbo, and Patrick Moran.
“I’ve adored The Wizard of Oz since I was young,” Matthews shared. “Dorothy represents resilience and reminds us that with kindness and determination, we can overcome struggles and uplift those around us. Bringing that message to audiences today feels more important than ever.”
Moran echoed her enthusiasm, saying, “I couldn’t be more excited to collaborate with this team. Everyone involved is so talented, and it’s thrilling to put a new spin on such a beloved story.”
Shelton, a nine-time Grammy nominee and multi-platinum country star, already has producing credits on USA’s Barmageddon, CBS’s upcoming competition series The Road, and Hallmark’s Time for… to Come Home for Christmas movie franchise, based on his holiday song.
Discussing his latest project, Shelton said: “We’re thrilled about what this show can become, and I’m thankful Gina brought the idea to me and Lee. I knew right away Gwen would connect with it. Her creativity and vision are such a natural fit.”
Stefani shared the same excitement, explaining that this series allows her to tap into a new creative outlet. “It’s a modern, imaginative twist on a classic, and the chance to combine music, storytelling, and the spirit of Dorothy really inspires me,” she said.
A three-time Grammy winner and multiplatinum artist, Gwen Stefani has showcased her versatility beyond music. She portrayed Hollywood icon Jean Harlow in The Aviator and voiced the character DJ Suki in the animated hit Trolls. Stefani also took on the role of executive producer for the animated series Kuu Kuu Harajuku.
Both Stefani and her husband, Blake Shelton, are well known for their roles as coaches on NBC’s The Voice and for collaborating on several duets. However, their involvement in Dorothy marks an entirely new creative chapter for the pair.
